At Osteo for Families we have a passion for treating babies and children as young as the newborn. We love working with mums and dads along with grandparents to help settle concerns you have about your child.

We treat babies and children using techniques to help release any strains or stressors that your child has received, whether it is from birth, trauma, rapid growth periods, or operations. *Please note we do not use any techniques that involve cracking of the joints.

Osteo for Families have established a strong network of health care professionals who refer to us and we refer to them. They include local GPs, paediatricians, midwifes, maternal child health nurses, dentists and podiatrists and myotherapists.

All children whether newborn or toddler will have a thorough history taken followed by an examination that may look similar to what your Maternal Child Health Nurse completes plus an osteopathic examination looking at their joints and muscles and how the body moves and breathes.

General and brief examples of our approach:

Any child presenting to Osteo for Families with ‘Pigeon toed or knock knees’’ will have a thorough examination of their feet, ankles, knees, hips, pelvis and low back. We look at whether their presentation is mild to severe, within ‘normal’ limits of growing or not and therefore decide if treatment consisting of gentle stretching and articulation or referral is best for your child.

Growing pains can be a common complaint in children. At Osteo for Families we will check for any restrictions of bone, joints, and ligaments near and around growth plates. We also assess movement patterns and see if we can correct any postural strains present. On occasions we will prescribe stretches or strengthening exercises with the aim to help loosen tight muscles or stabilize hypermobile joints.

Repeated ear infections in children can be quite common. Our approach is to make sure there is freedom particularly around the neck and head for infections to drain. We may also check for spinal, neural and muscular restrictions too.

Osteopathy and Behavioural issues in children: there is no magic technique to help children with behavioural issues. At Osteo for Families we approach these children looking to see if we can release any tightness muscles or settle any overactivity in their neurological system. We may use soft tissue manipulation, stretching, biodynamics or cranial osteopathy in this process.

At Osteo for Families Darwin and Diamond Creek we pride ourselves on our ability to use gentle techniques to release the restrictions, increase drainage to the area, increase mobility and settle any niggles we find. Unfortunately all children present to us differently as no two children are the same, therefore treatment styles, techniques and advice will all be different and cannot be guaranteed. Please feel free to give us a call to discuss your child and to see if Osteopathic treatment is best suited for them, otherwise you are welcome book online at
