What do Osteopaths treat babies for?

At Osteo for Families we have a passion for treating babies and children as young as the newborn. We love working with mums and dads along with grandparents to help settle concerns you have about your child.

We treat babies and children using techniques to help release any strains or stressors that your child has received, whether it is from birth, trauma, rapid growth periods, or operations. *Please note we do not use any techniques that involve cracking of the joints.

Osteo for Families have established a strong network of health care professionals who refer to us and we refer to them. They include local GPs, paediatricians, midwifes, maternal child health nurses, dentists and lactation consultants.

All children whether newborn or toddler will have a thorough history taken followed by an examination that may look similar to what your Maternal Child Health Nurse completes plus an osteopathic examination looking at their joints and muscles and how the body moves and breathes.

General and brief examples of our approach:

Breastfeeding

If you or your baby are having trouble breast feeding, we may look at if your baby can turn their head evenly, if their jaw can open wide enough, how they latch and their tongue control.

Bub’s neck looks shorter on one side; we may check their nervous, spinal and muscular system to see where the restriction is.

Plagiocephaly and brachiocephaly (flat head)

With Plagiocephaly and Brachiocephaly (flat head) we may check the entire spine and muscular system to see where the restriction is coming from. Having studied cranial osteopathy we may also check the bones of the skull for any restrictions too.

Repeated ear infections

Repeated ear infections in children can be quite common. Our approach is to make sure there is freedom particularly around the neck and head for infections to drain. We may also check for spinal, neural and muscular restrictions too.

Colic and reflux

Babies suffering with colic, reflux, sleep issues and restlessness are presented to us often at Osteo for Families. There is no simple answer to treating these bubs other than looking at their reflexes, joints and muscles to make sure there are no restrictions or dysfunctions causing them to be upset.

At Osteo for Families Diamond Creek we pride ourselves on our ability to use gentle techniques to release the restrictions, increase drainage to the area, increase mobility and settle any niggles we find. Unfortunately all babies and children present to us differently as no two children are the same, therefore treatment styles, techniques and advice will all be different and cannot be guaranteed. Please feel free to give us a call to discuss your child and to see if Osteopathic treatment is best suited for them or book directly online https://osteo4families.cliniko.com/bookings#location
